Andrew J. Nathan discusses U.S.-China Relations in Deutsche Welle

Andrew-Nathan-Better550Andrew J. Nathan, the Class of 1919 Professor of Political Science at Columbia University, was interviewed by Germany’s Deutsche Welle in a February 8, 2017 article titled “Why Trump Needs to Avoid Collision Course with China.”

“President Trump doesn’t always do what he says and he seems to be very capable of changing course,” Professor Nathan said in the interview. “I think it is not in the interest of the United States to change its stance on the one-China policy. So far Trump hasn’t changed it, and I don’t take the noises that are emanating from the White House as policy. I am waiting to see what the actual policy is, and I think that Trump will leave this issue as it is.”
