Andrew Nathan comments on US-China “visa war” in SCMP report

Professor Andrew Nathan was quoted in a recent South China Morning Post article titled “US and China must stop ‘race to bottom’ in blocking academic visas, say American scholars.” In the article, Professor Nathan suggested that recent moves by the US to block or revoke the visas of a number of Chinese academics follow a long history of Chinese denials of visas for American academics. “This asymmetry or lack of reciprocity has for a long time been a low-level issue on the US side, but now the US government seems to be retaliating,” he said.
