Andrew Nathan writes Foreign Affairs article on US-China trade war

Professor Andrew Nathan discussed the Chinese perspective in Sino-US trade talks in a new article for Foreign Affairs titled “How China Really Sees the Trade War.” According to Nathan, US President Donald Trump must “decide whether to accept the Chinese offer that has been on the table ever since early 2017 and end the trade war or to allow the US and Chinese economies to drift further toward decoupling,” when the president and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping meet on the sidelines of the upcoming G-20 summit in Osaka.
“‘We’re going to win either way,’ Trump likes to say. But according to two Chinese colleagues who contributed to this article but cannot attach their names, Beijing policymakers believe he is either misinformed or bluffing,” Nathan wrote.
