Carol Gluck delivers keynote address at conference on “Modern Japan in the Comparative Imagination”

Professor Carol Gluck gave a keynote address at an interdisciplinary conference on the comparative imagination in history-writing in Durham, UK. The conference, which was held at Durham University May 9-10, considered how modern Japanese history, literature, and art have been shaped by and understood through comparisons across national and cultural boundaries. Professor Gluck also presented a paper at a conference on National Memory in the Time of Populism in St. Louis (May 23-25) titled National Pasts as Political Presents: A Dilemma for Our (All) Time.
