Carol Gluck, the George Sansom Professor of History and Chair of the Committee on Global Thought at Columbia University, spoke on the BackStory radio program about royalty in Japan.
On the occasion of Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday, BackStory presented the May 13, 2016 podcast “Watch the Throne: America and Royalty” in which leading historians, including Professor Gluck, discussed Americans’ fascination with royalty in countries around the globe.
BackStory is a public radio program and podcast that brings historical perspective to the events happening around us today. On each show, U.S. historians Ed Ayers, Peter Onuf, and Brian Balogh tear a topic from the headlines and plumb its historical depths. Over the course of the hour, they are joined by fellow historians, people in the news, and callers interested in exploring the roots of what’s going on today.
