Duncan McCargo Talks to the South China Morning Post About Thailand’s “Watchgate” Scandal

DuncanMcCargo2_550wDuncan McCargo, Visiting Professor of Political Science at Columbia University and Professor of Political Science at the University of Leeds, was quoted in the January 28, 2018 South China Morning Post article “Is Time Up for Thailand’s Junta After ‘Watchgate’ Scandal?” The article explores how the new delay in holding Thailand’s postponed 2016 election and the growing “watchgate” scandal is putting more public pressure and scrutiny on the country’s reigning military junta.

Professor McCargo, an expert on Thai politics, told the newspaper “in Thailand when the political mood changes, it can change very fast. A week or two can make a huge difference. The [junta] really should get ready to bail out before things deteriorate – they could get a lot worse in 2018.”
