Eugenia Lean, Director of the Weatherhead East Asian Institute and Associate Professor of Chinese History at Columbia University, met on August 1, 2017 with Ko Wen-je, the Mayor of Taipei, to discuss continued cooperation between Taipei and the Columbia University community. Mayor Ko Wen-je and Professor Lean were joined by Steven Pan, a Columbia Business School alumnus and Columbia alumni leader, who is the Chairman of the Regent Hotels Group. They discussed Taipei City Hall’s participation in WEAI’s Robert M. Immerman Professional Fellows Program (the first fellow from Taipei City Hall will be joining the Institute this fall), Taiwanese politics, and ways to encourage young Taiwanese to go abroad to the United States for their graduate studies. In Taipei, Professor Lean also attended a luncheon with Columbia alumni that Mr. Pan had generously organized.
