Gerald L. Curtis, the Burgess Professor of Political Science Emeritus at Columbia University and a renowned expert on Japanese politics, was interviewed by South Korea’s Munhwa Ilbo about numerous diplomatic and security issues related to East Asia. Professor Curtis had been in Seoul in June 2017 to give a talk at the Institute for Global Economics.
On June 23, 2017, Munhwa Ilbo published two articles based on the interview. The first article, featured on the front page of the newspaper’s “Life & Story” section, is an in-depth interview about relations between the U.S., South Korea, Japan, China, and North Korea. The second article focuses on what South Korea can learn from Japan’s diplomacy with the U.S.
