Gerald L. Curtis, the Burgess Professor of Political Science Emeritus at Columbia University, was quoted in a September 19, 2017 Reuters article about the possibility of Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe holding a snap election in October 2017. The Prime Minister is expected to hold such an election in order to take advantage of a rebound in his approval ratings. However, Professor Curtis said “I don’t dismiss the possibility of the voters giving Abe a nasty surprise.”
