Lien-Hang Nguyen, the Dorothy Borg Associate Professor in the History of the United States and East Asia at Columbia University, will discuss the history of Vietnam at the New-York Historical Society on Monday, March 5, 2018 and Friday, March 9, 2018, and at Vassar College on Wednesday, March 7, 2018.
Professor Nguyen will discuss the 1968 Tet Offensive on March 5 with Max Boot of the Council on Foreign Relations at the New-York Historical Society’s event “The Tet Offensive: 50 Years Later.” She will also discuss the legacy of the Tet Offensive at Vassar College’s March 7 event “The Tet Offensive Revisited.”
On Friday, March 9, Professor Nguyen will return to the New-York Historical Society for the event “Justice in Film: ‘Indochine,'” during which she will (with Ron Simon, the Curator of Television and Radio at the Paley Center for Media, and Dale Gregory, the Vice President for Public Programs at the New-York Historical Society) talk about the Academy Award-winning 1992 film, which tells the story of a French woman and her adopted Vietnamese daughter set in colonial French Indochina during the rise of the Vietnamese nationalist movement.
