Lydia H. Liu named the 2017-18 Frank M. Updike Memorial Scholar by the Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar Program

Lydia_Liu_1Lydia H. Liu, the Wun Tsun Tam Professor in the Humanities and Director of Columbia University’s Institute for Comparative Literature and Society, has been named the 2017-18 Frank M. Updike Memorial Scholar by the Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar Program. The designation is awarded to a “distinguished scholar in the humanities, especially one who is prepared to address intercultural relations.” Since its founding in 1776, Phi Beta Kappa has celebrated excellence in the liberal arts and sciences and championed freedom of thought. As America’s most prestigious academic honor society, it is uniquely equipped to advocate for the value and benefits of liberal arts and sciences education.

As the Frank M. Updike Memorial Scholar, Professor Liu will present lectures at colleges and universities around the United States during the 2017-18 academic year. A provisional schedule of lectures is available below:
