Michael R. Griffiths received his PhD in English from Rice University in 2012, completing his dissertation under the auspices of a Lodieska Stockbridge Vaughn Fellowship. Griffiths’s dissertation explores the biopolitical dimensions of settler colonialism, the formation of public spheres around motifs of indigeneity, and questions of cultural memory. He has taught courses on postcolonial and global fiction and film, and on ideas of animality and species difference in modernist literature and culture, in addition to several introductory humanities seminars. Griffiths has published in such venues as Postmodern Culture, Humanimalia, Antipodes, and Australian Literary Studies, as well as in several edited collections.
His current research projects include editing a collection on cultural memory in postcolonial societies, a study of the idea of magical realism in relation to indigenous traditions, and a study of the poetics of Michel Foucault. He will also be assisting with Columbia’s new Fifth Year Undergraduate Fellows program.
