New ASAP/Journal issue spotlights WEAI “Performing History” workshop

Arts and humanities journal ASAP/Journal has released an issue featuring essays on “Performing History,” based on a performance arts workshop organized in 2017 at Columbia University by former Borg postdoctoral scholar Miki Kaneda, with major funding from the WEAI. Titled “Swallowing and Spitting History: Performing History/Experimental Practices,” the workshop brought together performing artists and scholars from New York City, Columbia, the CUNY Graduate Center, NYU, and Wesleyan University.
Kaneda, who is currently Assistant Professor of Music, Musicology & Ethnomusicology at Boston University, edited the dossier of materials included in the issue, and contributed an introductory essay as well as an interview with one of the workshop participants, Miya Masaoka, a composer and the director of Columbia’s Sound Art MFA. The issue also includes contributions from Tyran Grillo, another Borg postdoctoral scholar at the WEAI from 2017-2018, and Ellie Hisama, Professor of Music and Theory at Columbia University.
