Professor Qin Gao was recently quoted in an article in The Telegraph titled “China’s sweeping anti-poverty drive has pulled millions out of hardship, but can it last?” In the article, Professor Gao explained that providing work opportunities and expanding education and health support for the poor are necessary for China’s poverty alleviation programs to have a lasting effect. “Without investing in human capital, especially poor children, there’s no long-term escape of poverty,” she said.
