We are pleased to announce that Qin Gao, Professor of Social Policy and Social Work and Director, China Center for Social Policy, at Columbia University, will give the keynote address “China’s War on Poverty: Will it Succeed?” at the Foundation for International Studies on Social Security (FISS)’s 25th Anniversary International Conference, which will take place from June 4 to June 6, 2018 in Sigtuna, Sweden.
The theme of the 2018 FISS conference is “Social Security at the Crossroads? Learning from the Past, Imagining the Future,” including financial austerity, recurring economic crisis, demographic and climate change, armed conflict and new migration patterns, political unrest and the rise of populist or extremist ideas.
In addition to Professor Gao, who is an expert on social assistance programs in China, the other keynote speakers at the conference will be Tania Burchardt (London School of Economics); Olli Kangas (Director of Government and Community Relations, Kela, The Finnish Social Insurance Institution); and Tim Smeeding (University of Wisconsin-Madison).
