Robert Barnett talks with The New York Daily News about the Dalai Lama

Robert-Barnett-Scholars_550Modern Tibetan Studies Director Robert Barnett (Retired January 2018) talked with The New York Daily News in a July 6, 2016 Q & A about the reality of the Dalai Lama’s life on the eve of the spiritual leader’s 81st birthday.

“His birth name was Lhamo Dhondup. After he was recognized as the Dalai Lama, he was also given a religious name — Tenzin Gyatso. In Tibetan, Gyatso means ocean, while Tenzin roughly translates to teacher,” the article notes.
