Shang-Jin Wei Talks to the South China Morning Post About the Impact of Trump’s Tariffs on China

Shang-Jin Wei, the N.T. Wang Professor of Chinese Business and Economy at Columbia Business School, spoke to the South China Morning Post about the possible impact of President Trump’s tariffs on China in the March 9, 2018 article “Donald Trump Signs Off on Sweeping Tariffs, Singling Out ‘Unfair’ China and Defying Trade War Warnings.”

“This is an escalation of a major conflict,” Professor Wei said. “The economic success of China has, for the past 40-something years, depended on a relatively open world economy and its ability to trade with the world, so from that point of view China does not want to have a trade war.”
