The Asahi Shimbun interviews Gerald L. Curtis about Japan’s Diplomacy

GerryCurtis2015-16The Asahi Shimbun recently interviewed Gerald L. Curtis, the Burgess Professor of Political Science at Columbia University, about Japan’s current diplomacy efforts. In the article, Professor Curtis argues that the nature of Japan’s diplomacy can best be characterized as a “coping strategy.” “A coping strategy does not seek to set the international agenda; instead it takes the world order as given and focuses on how to respond,” Professor Curtis explained.
