WEAI Professors Eugenia Lean, Carol Gluck, Theodore Hughes, and Paul Kreitman Presenting at AAS-in-Asia in Seoul

The Weatherhead East Asian Institute is pleased to announce that faculty members Eugenia Lean, Carol Gluck, Theodore Hughes, and Paul Kreitman will be presenting at this summer’s Association for Asian Studies (AAS) in Asia Conference, which will be held in Seoul from June 24, 2017 to June 27, 2017. Eugenia Lean, Associate Professor of Chinese History at Columbia University and Director of the Weatherhead East Asian Institute, will be presenting “Everyday Expertise in 1920s China: Creating Common Knowledge in an Era of Global Manufacturing” in a panel that she organized titled “Knowledge in Motion: Global Flows of Information, Domestic Strategies, and Ways of Knowing in Early Twentieth Century China.” This panel will take place on Sunday, June 25, from 4:10 PM to 6:00 PM in LG-Posco Hall, 5th Floor, 531.

Carol Gluck, George Sansom Professor of History at Columbia University, will be a discussant in a special roundtable titled “Towards an Asian Community.” This event will take place Saturday, June 24, from 4:10 PM to 6:00 PM in LG-Posco Hall, Supex Hall, 4F.

Theodore Hughes, Korea Foundation Associate Professor of Korean Studies in the Humanities at Columbia University, will be speaking at the special roundtable “Korean Studies Past, Present, and Future: Moving Beyond Boundaries Towards Multi-Disciplinary, Transnational, and Alternative Approaches.” This panel, sponsored by the Korea Foundation, will take place on Monday, June 26, from 4:10 PM to 6:00 PM in LG-Posco Hall, Supex Hall, 4F.

Paul Kreitman, Assistant Professor of Japanese History at Columbia University, will be presenting “Wildlife and Sovereignty Conservation in the Northwest Hawaiian and Senkaku Isles” in a panel that he organized titled “Wildlife Conservation in the North Pacific Borderlands.” This panel will take place on Sunday, June 25, from 4:10 PM to 6:00 PM in LG-Posco Hall, 1st Floor, 108.
