WEAI Senior Research Scholar Elizabeth Wishnick meets with Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Wishnick Taipei

WEAI Senior Research Scholar Elizabeth Wishnick (second from right) met in July 2016 with Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a member of a delegation of eight scholars from the United States. The group met with policymakers and scholars to discuss issues in cross-straits and U.S.-Taiwan relations.

Since 2002, Professor Wishnick has been a research scholar at WEAI. A professor of political science at Monclair State University, she previously taught undergraduate and graduate courses in international relations, Chinese politics, and Chinese foreign policy at Barnard College, Columbia College, and Columbia SIPA.

Professor Wishnick’s research focuses on Chinese foreign policy and non-traditional security. Her current book project, China’s Risk China’s Risk: Oil, Water, Food and Regional Security (forthcoming Columbia University Press, 2016) addresses the security and foreign policy consequences for the Asia-Pacific region of oil, water and food risks in China. She is also writing a study on China’s interests and goals in the Arctic for the Strategic Studies Institute at the U.S. Army War College, where she also published three studies on great power relations in Central Asia. Professor Wishnick is the author of Mending Fences: The Evolution of Moscow’s China Policy from Brezhnev to Yeltsin (Seattle: University of Washington Press, 2014 and 2001).
